So, I am a few weeks behind, SORRY!!! 20.. 21.. and 22.. weeks have all come (this Wednesday I will be 23 weeks pregnant)! We had our 20 week ultrasound on 20weeks, and so far everything still looks perfect! The little guy's heart is almost completely in the clear... We can be reassured that he doesn't have any MAJOR heart problem- so that is fantastic! This week we have our fetal echo (it's like an echocardiogram that they do on old people looking for congestive heart failure, but they will do it on the baby in me!) It will measure how fast the blood flows through the areas in the heart and the pressures in the different chambers... all of those measurements can tell us whether his heart is normal or may have issue later on. As far as the rest of the ultrasound, he still likes to show off that he is a boy!! His kidney's are slightly dilated so at 30 weeks he does need to be re-ultrasounded. This, however, isn't too much to worry about as it is more common in baby boys! He does still have that foci in his heart, so that will be looked at again at that point too!
He has started the ongoing quest to make mommy need to pee very often. He loves to jump up and down on my bladder!! It is pretty special to feel him kicking and flipping and swimming around! It isn't constant, but it is almost guaranteed that he wakes up for sure after breakfast and after most other meals too! Christopher loves to feel him kicking around too!
His growth... 20 weeks, he was about 10.5 ounces and the length of a banana head to toe. He was practicing swallowing a lot and starting to make meconium (ie newborn poopie)... he keeps it inside until his first diaper after birth--- hopefully (it is not good if he poops before birth!)
21 weeks... he weighed about 3/4 of a pound and was the length of a carrot. Kicking was supposed to be noticed at this point (our baby took a few more days...) His eyelids and eyebrows were formed at that point as well. (If he was a girl, his vagina would have been forming as well.)
22 weeks... last wednesday through now... baby was 11 inches and the size of a spaghetti squash and about a pound. He also is starting to truly look like a newborn baby instead of an alien! Lips, eyelids, eyebrown and toothbuds (under the gums) all become more distinct. They eyes are formed, but the irises (the colored part of his eyes- hopefully green like mommy!) are lacking pigment. He is also covered in lanugo (the fine hair that covers baby's skin) and he is wrinkly- waiting for fat to fill in his skin. His pancreas (the organ that makes insulin and other very important hormones and enzymes for digestion) is starting to steadily form).
Our updates... Went shopping with Nancy a couple of weeks ago and pretty much got a completely new wardrobe... a very good thing considering not much of my other clothes fit! Last weekend, Anne and Mitch were here and it was pretty neat to compare baby bumps! Yesterday, Christopher and I went to register at Target yesterday... it's amazing how much time you can spend in 4 aisles! We also started to paint the nursery! We will post pics of the nursery as soon as it is done!!! We will also post pics of my huge self soon!
